The Brazilian transdisciplinary architecture studio MNMA  developed a unique design language of sensitivity, simplicity and intimacy with which they create beautiful projects diverse in scale. Their minimalist spaces are defined by a monochrome palette and intimate and an elegant aesthetic. MNMA’s design of a commercial space in São Paulo, Brazil called Dois Trópicos presents itself as a celebration of authentic materials. It is a hybrid space integrating gastronomy, yoga and botany, providing a calming safe haven in the urban jungle that is São Paulo. It is a commercial space serving as a homely experience. This is achieved by using a nostalgic atmosphere and natural materials and matter, all crafted by artisans who strive for real environments instead of perfection.

Right from the beginning, visitors are captivated by the special design of a translucent, foldable façade at the entrance which is in great contrast with the colors and materials from the interior. This unique element welcomes you into the space which radiates a homey feel thanks to the warm terra cotta colors and objects. It’s almost like you are transported back in time, going back to basic construction, an ancient atmosphere while reconnecting with the earth. The simplicity of the interior spaces makes you appreciate the materials and architecture even more while simultaneously creating a calming aesthetic.

The sculptural staircase in which technique and craftsmanship are combined is an eye-catcher just like the circular shaped doorway on the other façade. The walls and ceiling are made of the same material as the staircase, creating a smooth transition and monochrome whole. Besides bringing texture and tone graduation, the stairs also serves as a stunning detail and expands our senses. The walls being literally made from earth, like clay, create the beautiful color and cause a mesmerizing play with light. "The soil reacts allegorically to the sunlight movement along the day, turning walls, ceilings and the floor not into limits or boundaries, but into canvases for the light to express itself gradually in various forms," MNMA told Dezeen
