This serene white haven, called Filux Lab, was created by Workshop, a young architectural company in Mexico. Serving as the new art laboratory of the International Festival of Lights Mexico (FILUX), the space exudes “a sense of artistic community” and almost serves as a blank canvas for art itself.

The creative mind behind this project, Workshop, is the brainchild of architects Francisco Bernés and Fabiàn Gutiérrez. Besides houses and buildings, Workshop also takes on projects involving restorations, landscaping, carpentry, and more with the same great dedication to present high standards of beauty, comfort, and quality.

With Filux Lab they created a meeting point between artists, experts, and the public. The stunning colonial house is set in Merida, Yucutan, Mexico and will be used as a gallery, workshop, a place of research, of coexistence, and more. The beautiful historic building was renovated into a more contemporary style, while still preserving some original details to represent the rich colonial heritage of the Mexican city it resides in. The interior and exterior were painted in a stark white that’s beautifully balanced by colorful tile floors and surrounding greenery. While most of the site is in line with the Yucatecan colonial architecture, the back esplanade sets a rather contrasting statement with its more modern and bold design.

Due to the structure of the building, the sunlight creates a magical geometric play with light and shadow while at night, you can use artificial lights to create another special atmosphere. Thinking of the purpose of the lab, all the architectural elements such as walls, ceilings, floors and doors can be used for artistic interventions.

Almost a sculpture on its own, this new creative and cultural hub is full of character and artistic possibilities.
